No Real Estate Blog should EVER contain the following...
- Ad Words - Are you selling Homes as a profession or links? What message are you sending to your clients? The revenue is minimal, the damage great! Don't be tempted.
- Blog Roll - What was once a good idea has now been frowned upon in search engines. Well controlled cross links are ok, Link Farms are not.
- Cut and Paste - Plagiarism is very easy to track on the internet. Readers don't like something that obviously isn't your writing.
- Boring Droll - Don't be boring - people like to read lively text. It's better to walk away and wait for inspiration.
- Negative Spin - Look for the positive in every story and point that out. Readers don't like "Negative Nancy"
- Improper Spelling and Punctuation - Use spell check and proof read. This isn't the place to show off your knowledge of slang or emoticons.
- Sex, Politics and Religion - Obvious, but it still needs to be stated. It's ok to bring up a hot topic but resist the urge to lecture on your personal beliefs or position.
- Stagnation - Blog on a regular basis. Once a week, 3 times a week, or daily. If the returning reader is making the effort to find your blog they should be rewarded with fresh content.
- No Pictures - Include pictures in every post. Pictures can illustrate, add humor, or hammer the point home.
- No Links - Link to everything! Did you use a new term? Then make a link to that word in Dictionary.com or Wikipedia. Sources of information should also be linked. Location? Include a link to the location with a mapping site, as in Mapquest, Yahoo or Google Maps. Make it easy for the reader to verify your research.
