Dale Carnegie wrote the book on "How to Win Friends and Influence People"
We can take some of his main underlying principles and apply them to blogging.
To win our Readers we need to establish 3 main concepts:
- You Are Like Them
- People like people they can relate to.
- You Understand Them
- People like people that understand their problems.
- You Are an Expert in Your Field and can Solve their Problems
- People trust those that they consider authorities.
That seems easy enough - right?
Now let's breakdown the style of your posts into 5 distinctive forms...
- Tutorial - (You are an Expert)
People like to know what to expect in any transaction.
By leading them with a guidebook or roadmap, you set yourself apart as an expert.
Example: "The 10 things you must do today before you list your house."
Example: "Which counter top surface is best for you?"
- News - (You are an Like them)
By relating local news information you let the reader know that the same things that concerns them also concern you.
Example: "Planning Commission looking at changing rules for RV parking."
Example: "Valley Park girls swim team wins all county swim meet!"
- Fun - (You are an Like them)
Not a joke of the day, but maybe something light and humorous.
Restaurant Reviews, Favorite Getaways, Favorite Websites - most anything.
Example: "The Best Halloween Decorated Homes in Shady Acres."
Example: "My Dog's favorite dog park."
- Example - (You are an Expert & Understand Them)
Using past clients as evidence of success you can clearly demonstrate that you have the knowledge
to overcome obstacles and problems.
Example: "Mary and Bob thought they could never afford to buy here."
Example: "Recent Divorce? - no problem! We found John a new home."
- Call to Action - (You are an Expert & Problem Solver)
Using recent changes in current market conditions you can illustrate
the time to buy or sell is sooner rather than later.
Example: "How not to ruin your closing."
Example: "Short Sales are coming, are you prepared?"
As you sit down at the keyboard to create a post,
Stop and think for a moment,
What style post will this be?
With that style in mind... Post Away!
Your blog should contain a healthy balance of all 5 styles.
